Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell says “Not a Candidate” for Energy Secretary

Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell told reporters on Monday that he’s not interested in a position in President-elect Barack Obama’s cabinet. The governor’s name has been thrown around as a possible candidate to fill the position of either Energy or Interior Secretary.

“I’m a candidate for nothing,” Rendell told reporters after speaking at an energy event sponsored by the Center for American Progress.

Rendell added that he fully intends to finish out his term as governor of his state, especially since he would be replaced by Republican Joe Scarnati if he were to leave office.

Commenting on Scarnati, Rendell said, “I could not leave the 19th largest economy in the world in his hands.”

The Pennsylvania governor has supported a plan to set up a $650 million fund for clean energy in his state. He also made it a point to go on record saying that he believes the federal government must invest in the development of clean coal technology and other ways of making America’s infrastructure more energy-efficient.
